Just like other domestic pets, your dear rabbits need to have a proper place to live in. This is so important as this is one factor for its survival. When you plan to raise a rabbit at home, housing your rabbit is a thing that you must not forget.

Rabbit Hutch Sample - Photo Credit: http://www.manorfarmwoodcraft.co.uk/rabbithousing.php

When building a shelter our hutch for your dear bunny, there are some important things that you need to take into account. These are the following you need to consider when you are going to build a rabbit hutch.

Decide whether you are going to house your pet rabbit indoor our outdoor. There are some differences on designs between an indoor rabbit hutch and the outdoor ones – you should be aware on this.

Decide on whether you are going to make a wooden type of rabbit hutch or the wire type. The two have their own advantages and disadvantages. You have to decide depending on their specific needs.

When designing your hutch ( or when you buy) you need to consider the size, it should be at least 5 times the length ( not height) of your pet rabbit. This is to see to it that your rabbis have enough space to roam inside the hutch – remember, rabbits love to play around.

Another thing is, you need to consider its durability most especially when you are going to place you hutch outdoor. This will help your dear bunnies safe from predators that might be just roaming around. Actually, for outdoor rabbit hutch, most rabbit raisers choose the combination of wooden and wire materials.

You also need to consider proper ventilation when designing. You have to see to it that your rabbit hutch is properly ventilated so that you can avoid your rabbits from exhaustion. Extreme temperature can really harm them compared to cold so see to it that the hutch you are going to use for your bunnies is ideal for them to take enough air, and avoid extreme temperature that could be lethal to them.

You may also want to place your rabbit hutch at a certain distance that can easily be accessed when in times your pet rabbits need you. A place that does not hinder the flow of your domestic tasks or home daily routine.

Another important point when building a rabbit hutch is that you do not need to buy all the raw materials when you think you have these things in your storage room. Reuse them if possible to economize – just buy the lacking raw materials.

So, above are just few tips for rabbit housing. Just always remember, be innovative, be creative, and be pro-rabbit when designing your rabbit hutch.

Perhaps you are one of those individuals who plan to breed rabbits and just like them, you may ask: how to breed rabbits?

Let us make the question more specific – shall we?

The question that is more precise would be: How to breed rabbits for pet? How to breed rabbits for commercial purposes?

Though, most pet rabbit raiser prefer adoption than breeding, some people still choose to breed their own for the purpose of raising a more specific variety. So I am writing this article for them.

When you want to breed rabbit the most important thing that you should think first is your goal – why are you planning to breed? What are the things you want to accomplish with rabbits?

In this article I am to share with you some useful ideas before you commence breeding rabbits. I am to discuss specifically on how to breed rabbits for pet. Consider some useful tips.

Prior to breeding, determine what particular breed you want to produce this is to ensure that you are able to breed a particular variety that is ideal for pet rabbit raising.

Decide on whether you want to have a cross-bred variety or not. It is important that you ask a rabbit expert that you know on what are those breeds who have been successfully cross-bred. This is to ensure that rabbits you want to cross-breed can produce a successful offspring.

It is also important that you know substantial information on taking care of your rabbits – most specially during the period of rabbit pregnancy until its little bunnies are capable already to manage themselves.

Be knowledgeable about providing ideal shelter or hutch for them. Know some hutches that are designed specifically for breeding. It is also important that you are able to decide which type you are gonna use – is it a wooden type or the wire ones? You need to decide also on whether you are to put your hutch indoor or outdoor.

Giving the right foods is also an important thing that you should realize. Determine what are those foods that are healthy for your rabbit – what should be given during the breeding period? And what are the those foods that should be given thereafter?

Get enough knowledge about rabbit first aid also – anything can happen during the breeding period – including things fatal for your rabbit. So it is important that you are able to give proper medication and you know when to go to animal clinic or veterinarian.

Above are just some useful tips for breeding pet rabbits. There are lots of important resources online which can help you to become a successful pet rabbit breeder – it just needs a research enthusiasm.

A lot of people ask me – particularly those who have the desire to raise pet rabbit -on how to become a successful pet rabbit raiser. What are the key elements to remember.

When I am asked this question, what I would usually reply is that one of the most important things to consider to become a successful pet rabbit raiser is giving the right pet rabbit care – and I think this idea is very basic that every rabbit raiser should know.

So, how to give your pet rabbit the right care? Giving your pet rabbit the right care is giving what is necessary, what is vital in order for your pet to live happy and healthy.

Consider the following pet rabbit care guide:

Giving the right foods.Giving the right foods means giving what is necessary for its survival. Many rabbit raisers tend to give foods without even knowing first if those are essential or risky for them. There are a lot of commercially-produced rabbit foods out there which are advertised to be very good for pet rabbit – be careful on this, know what is necessary and understand what are the nutrients that your pet really needs.

Giving ideal shelter. Giving the right pet rabbit care also means giving the most ideal shelter for your bunny. Housing it so that it is safe from predators that are roving in and around the perimeter of your home, safe from environmental hazards such as extreme temperature and excessive coldness. You have to remember that there are specific designs when you decide to house your pet rabbit outdoor or letting it stay inside your home. In addition, it is also important that you understand which is more ideal hutch for your pet – is it a wooden type or the wire-type?

Proper rabbit grooming. Does your pet rabbit really need grooming? Yes. Your pet can be very vulnerable to diseases if you don’t groom it properly. Long-haired rabbit needs to be combed as you can have trouble over matted hair – matted hair can lead to skin diseases and can possibly lead to more complications.

Rabbit medication, health check-up. There are times that your pet rabbit needs medication or health check-up. You should know rabbit first aid and you should know when to visit an animal clinic.

Above are just some basic pet rabbit care ideas you should know to have a better chance to be come a successful pet rabbit raiser.

Rabbits belong to animals that are herbivores, which means they only eat plants. Some of what they eat include graze on seeds, herbs, grass, roots, and twigs. But in the case of domesticated rabbits, they are fed with more easy-to-prepare or instant ones – foods that can be found in pet stores. There are, in fact, products which are labeled complete rabbit food and that means all nutrients that rabbits need are packed in one product. These are usually processed foods which nutrients are extracted from raw foods found in conventional ones. The only difference is that processed rabbit foods can be prepared in an instant.

Yes, rabbits can be fed with home-made or conventional foods as well as commercial ones like rabbit pellet food. However, whether you decide to give either of these two or both, there are some things that you need to remember always – it must be a healthy and safe food for rabbits.

In the case of domestic rabbits, feeding them with prepared foods like pellets is recommended. However, they should also be fed occasionally with grass or hay to provide the necessary nutrients they need – nutrients that are peeled-off when these raw foods are processed to become instant rabbit pellet foods. Additionally, rabbits can also be given with fresh fruit and vegetables.

Aside from foods, it is also important to consider to have a potable water available for them all the time because just like other animals, rabbits need water keep hydrated. As a matter if fact, rabbits drink a lot of water – it is part of their daily needs. Rabbits cannot endure water deprivation for more than a day without serious health consequences. So, give them potable water, fresh water everyday as this is very necessary for them to grow and survive.

When choosing the kinds of foods you give to your domestic rabbit pets, consider these important factors:

Health – not all rabbit foods available in pet stores are that necessary so you better find out what are those foods they really need.

Costs – some of rabbit foods in the market are just too costly where in fact the nutrients they can give can just be found in conventional rabbit foods. You might end up losing a chunk of your budget when you do not consider costs. Remember, rabbits love to eat – they eat almost all the time and this might create a big ‘ouch!’ to your budget.

It is really a great help for you to find more resources about healthy and safe foods for rabbits, you may consider going to a veterenary doctor or animal clinic to find more useful information about this. There are also lots of available resources online.
